Product Description
Function
The brake disc is the friction coupling part of the disc brake. When the brake is applied during the vehicle's operation, the brake caliper clamps the brake disc, and the friction force is used to slow down or stop the vehicle.
Structure and Types
- Structure: It is divided into two types: solid type and ventilated type. The ventilated type can reduce the temperature rise by 20%-30%.
- Types: There are bimetallic brake discs, high-carbon brake discs, sprayed brake discs, bearing brake discs, engraved and grooved brake discs, etc.
Materials
- Gray Cast Iron: Such as HT250, which is equivalent to the American G3000 standard and has good braking performance. Its chemical composition is C: 3.1-3.4, Si: 1.9-2.3, Mn: 0.6-0.9, the tensile strength is greater than 210N/mm², and the hardness is between 187-241.
- Other Materials: For special or high-end models, materials such as ceramics and high-carbon dual-aluminum alloys are also used to improve braking efficiency and durability.
Dimensions
The diameter of the front brake disc is usually between 280-340 millimeters. For small cars, it is mostly between 298-305 millimeters, and for medium-sized cars, it is mostly between 30-32 centimeters. The diameter of the rear brake disc is usually smaller than that of the front brake disc, ranging from 24-30 centimeters.
Brands
- International Brands: Federal Mogul is from the United States and has a history of a hundred years. Bosch is a German brand, famous for its home appliances and automotive braking systems. Brembo focuses on the research, development and production of braking systems. TRW is an American brand, specializing in the field of automotive parts.
- Domestic Brands: SASAKI is known for its high-quality braking performance and high positive feedback rate. Goldkili is a well-known Chinese brand, focusing on the development of high-performance brake discs.
Characteristics
- Advantages: Generally, there is no friction boosting effect, and the performance is relatively stable. After getting water in, the performance reduction is small, and it can be restored after one or two brake applications. The size and quality are smaller than those of drum brakes. The thermal expansion amount is extremely small, and it will not cause an excessive brake pedal travel. It is relatively easy to achieve automatic clearance adjustment, and maintenance and repair are simple.
- Disadvantages: The braking performance is relatively low. The pressure required in the hydraulic braking system's braking actuation pipeline is relatively high, and a servo assist device is generally required. When it is also used for the parking brake, the parking brake transmission device is more complex than that of drum brakes.
Replacement Standards
When the groove depth on the edge of the brake disc exceeds the limit standard, there are slight cracks, the steering wheel shakes when braking at high speed, or the brake pedal bounces when the vehicle speed is less than 40 kilometers per hour, it must be replaced. Generally speaking, the mileage for replacing the brake disc is 60,000 kilometers, but it should be specifically compared with the limit standard on the actual brake disc according to the detected value, depending on individual driving conditions and usage.
